Why does The Villages still publish a yearly phone book?
With a population over 130,000 people, The Villages has a special way to connect people. You may have heard that The Villages still publishes a yearly phone book. But why? And what's in it?
Why does The Villages still publish a phone book? Hmmmm, that is a good question. In my opinion, there are a few reasons that The Villages still publishes yearly phone books. One is that the vast majority of current residents in 2022 grew up with a phone book and not the internet. Another one is that resident phone numbers are also listed by state and city. So it's easy to find someone from your hometown! Last, and probably the most important, reason that The Villages still publishes a yearly phone book is that the first 40 pages are filled with up-to-date information about living in The Villages. It includes information on community development districts, architecture review committee applications, community watch information, parks and recreation maps, golf cart rules, and information about libraries, voting, and obtaining driver's licenses. By the way you, can also check out my YouTube channel https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCBzzsTfhvkYvWzJ8f7zf0IQ for this info as well. How do you make sure that your name is or is NOT included? Either complete the form you are given when you are issued your Village's ID or call customer service at 352-753-4508.
In my opinion, as the population of The Villages becomes more tech-savvy, the phone books will be phased out. All the information in the first 40 pages can already be found on-line on the Villages website districtgov.org. Other resources include talkofthevillages.com and nextdoor.com. Up until last year, the phone books were delivered to your mailbox, however, so many people threw them out that there were stacks and stacks of unwanted phone books pilled up at the mail stations. Now, they deliver it to your driveway.
