Do I want an electric or gas golf cart when I live in The Villages?

The overall consensus by most Villagers is that a gas golf cart is the best choice. One of the advantages of the gas cart includes a much longer range in miles. Electric carts are notorious for running out of charge if taken too far from home. There is a running joke that the people who live in the extreme southern end of The Villages are finding themselves having to push electric carts who have run out of charge from Villagers from the central and northern parts who have come down to look around at the new areas in their golf carts. An advantage of the electric carts is that they are much more quiet when running. However, it must be said that the new generation of electric carts can go much further on a charge than they used to and new gas carts are becoming more and more quiet. No matter whether you choose electric or gas, a rescue towing company membership is a must! We use Kart-Aide and have been very pleased with their service! Another personal recommendation is to use The Village's Golf Cars as your place of purchase. Once purchased by them, they will readily service your golf cart as long as it's newer than 2008. If you DON'T purchase from them, they will NOT service your cart and you will have to find someone to service the cart. There are Villages Golf Car stores and services at all three squares and also in Magnolia Plaza in the areas south of the turnpike. Golf carts can be, at minimum, a way to get from home to the pool or grocery store or from holes one through nine on the golf course. Or, they can be a way to show style fandom or a way to stand out from the crowd. The Villages really is a golf cart community!

Golf cart prices range from $3,000 to $30,000! We recently purchased a 5 year-old, gas, Yamaha from Villages Golf Cars for $7500. New, basic gas carts will range from $14,000 to $22,000. Be aware that if you purchase a used electric, be sure to ask about how old the batteries are. New batteries can cost up to $1000! Golf cart "eye lashes" and name or logo stickers are very common personalized touches. Be sure to find a way to make your cart easier to find in the sea of golf carts we call The Villages!
