What is a Square?
One of the best parts of The Villages lifestyle is having a town square nearby. The Villages has 3 squares with another on the way! What exactly IS a square?
A signature part of The Villages lifestyle is the three, soon-to-be-four, town squares spread throughout The Villages. These squares, going from north to south, are Spanish Springs, Lake Sumter Landing, Brownwood Paddock Square and Sawgrass Grove. Each area is uniquely themed. Spanish Springs has a Spanish colonial look. Lake Sumter Landing is designed as an Atlantic Coastal town. And Brownwood is western themed. At these squares, you will find shops, restaurants, and movie theaters. But the best part is the free nightly live entertainment. Live music is played at each square nightly from 5:00PM to 9:00PM every day of the year. There is dancing, especially line dancing, and bar kiosks with happy hours. Special events, such as a farmer's market, craft fairs, market nights, golf cart parades, holiday events, and antique car cruise-ins, are all part of the fun you will find at the town squares. Town squares from the oldest areas to the newest areas of The Villages are important to The Villages lifestyle! Be sure to take advantage of all the activities at all the squares when you get here.
One could argue that the Town Squares are what make The Villages so unique! Free golf and thousands of other free activities during the day and free entertainment and socializing at the squares at night. What a life! What about the areas south of Brownwood? In those areas, there are two live entertainment and dining areas: Edna's On The Green and Sawgrass Grove. Edna's (located near the Fenney Putt and Play) is a mostly outdoor venue without a stage along with some food trucks. Individuals and small groups play music there. Lots of tables and tree-cover make this area quite pleasant and not near as crowded as the main squares. Sawgrass Grove promises to be another entertainment and dining venue. Similar to the main 3 squares, there will be a stage and entertainment daily. As of the writing of this post, however, it has not opened yet.
